January 2010

I’ve been living in Amsterdam since September 2006. Time flies when you’re having fun! My favourite kinds of fun involve working out, things related to design, writing and reading and music. There is plenty of music in Amsterdam and in my life, and since I moved here I have seen most of the bands I always wanted to see. Still waiting for Madonna to tour with a better album and Janet Jackson to tour outside the United States, though.

I love music (I guess you’ve noticed), and I write plenty about it. I love dancing, and I don’t write much about it, I just do it while music I wrote about it is playing in the background. Other things that tickle my fancy include working out and every related topic, typography, sex/gender/race politics, feminism, rare records, chick lit (which I prefer to call Literature, as opposed to dick lit which passes for literature in misogynistic circles) and Jakey Gyllenhaal Hugh Jackman obviously my gorgeous, special Dutch fiancĂ©. :) (No, we haven’t set the date yet.)

I own an aging rat, four young (I think?) fish, a weird ass beaver of an apartment, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum +, a barbell and everything written by Marian Keyes. I do not own a barbecue, a Windows PC and anything written by Jeremy Clarkson. I have so many tattoos I can’t really give a number here — trust me, it’s a lot. Four piercings. No implants.

Favourite book: The Hours by Michael Cunningham. Favourite movie: The Hours by Stephen Daldry. Favourite soundtrack: The Hours by Philip Glass Moulin Rouge. Favourite place to hang out: my gym. Favourite record: 5:55 by Charlotte Gainsbourg. Favourite piece of software: Photoshop.

When I grow up I would like to be Meryl Streep. If that proves impossible, I will settle for being Michael Cunningham.
